Shillong, Aug 1: Four local organisations have urged the South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner to intervene over poor Jio mobile connectivity and erratic power supply in the Rongara-Moheshkhola region.
Representatives of the A’chik Progressive Association (APA), Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Garo Hills Youth Society (GHYS) and Garo Students’ Union (GSU) submitted separate memorandums on the issues.
The groups said residents of Rongara, Mahadeo and Moheshkhola under Rongara Development Block face weak Jio signal, frequent call drops, unstable internet and slow data speeds. They said this has disrupted online education, digital payments, business and basic communication. A copy was also forwarded to the Jio Customer Relation Manager in Tura. The groups sought immediate upgradation of network infrastructure in the area.
The groups also highlighted frequent power cuts and an acute shortage of technical staff at Rongara Power Station. The organisations said outages have affected households, schools, healthcare facilities and businesses, while lack of linemen has delayed restoration during faults. Citing a growing consumer base, they demanded immediate deployment of additional technical personnel and measures to improve reliability and emergency response.
They appealed to the district administration to act in larger public interest.
