Shillong, Jul 30: The Chief Electoral Officer of Meghalaya has announced the completion of the house-to-house phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026.

One hundred per cent of the state’s electorate, comprising 23,49,645 voters, has been covered in the distribution of enumeration forms and all filled out forms were digitised.

According to the data, 7,75,337 electors or 33 per cent, have been mapped as “self” by linking their records to the 2005 electoral roll. Another 11,69,670 electors, or 49.78 per cent, have been mapped as “progeny” through their parents or grandparents.

A total of 2,24,234 electors, or 9.54 per cent, could not be linked and have been placed under the “no mapping” category.

These cases will be taken up for detailed verification during the claims and objections period from August 5 to October 3, as per the Registration of Electors Rules 1960 and Election Commission guidelines. Electors will be given the opportunity to submit required documents during this period.

As part of Absence Shifted, Dead/Deleted, or Duplicate (ASDD) verification, 1,80,404 electors, or 7.68 per cent, have been identified under the categories.

This includes 81,490 deceased, 45,013 whose forms were not returned, 42,532 who have permanently shifted, 4,668 who refused forms and 6,701 duplicate entries.

With the enumeration phase over, the focus will now be on verification of “no mapping” and ASDD cases.

The draft electoral roll is scheduled to be published on August 5.
