Shillong, Jul 29: The Meghalaya government is building a subway at Laitlyngkot to restore traffic on the Shillong-Dawki Road, which has been closed since massive landslides washed away a portion of the highway last month.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday said NHIDCL was directed to construct the subway immediately after the damage. “The subway is in its final stage, and work is being carried out round the clock,” Tynsong said. He expressed confidence it would be completed within a week, allowing vehicular movement to resume.
On delays in the overall Shillong-Dawki highway project, Tynsong said that the project is being executed by NHIDCL under the central government. “The project is under the control of the central government, and NHIDCL is executing it. We extend all necessary support whenever there are any sensitive or genuine issues,” he said.
