Shillong, Jul 27: East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem on Monday launched ‘Operation Free Flow,’ a dedicated traffic enforcement drive aimed at improving vehicular movement across Shillong.
The operation will focus on removal of vehicles parked haphazardly and in No Parking zones, which officials said are a major cause of congestion.
As part of the programme, appreciation letters were given to Officers-in-Charge of traffic branches and Gazetted Officers for their performance during ‘Operation Safer Shillong’.
Newly procured wheel clamps were also distributed to the newly constituted Shillong Traffic Enforcement Team (STET) to strengthen action against illegal parking.
Addressing the team, the SP stressed the need for fair, professional and impartial enforcement. He said the operation is a citizen-centric initiative designed to ease congestion, enhance mobility and prioritise public convenience.
The programme concluded with the flagging off of the STET, formally marking the start of Operation Free Flow.
