Shillong, Jul 27: A one-day programme on “Bridging Law and Justice: From Principles to Practice” was organised by the Meghalaya State Judicial Academy, High Court of Meghalaya.
Judicial officers from across the state attended the programme held on July 25, aimed at strengthening judicial knowledge, ethics and adjudicatory skills.
Former Supreme Court Judge Justice Abhay Srinivas Oka delivered the keynote address on Conduct and Ethics, and Court Management, stressing integrity, impartiality and efficient judicial administration.
Former Bombay High Court Judges also addressed sessions. Justice Shalini P. Joshi spoke on the POCSO Act, covering recording of statements of child victims, appreciation of evidence, age determination and child-sensitive trials. Justice Sadhana Sanjay Jadhav gave a comparative analysis of the Indian Evidence Act and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, highlighting key legislative changes.
In the final session, Justice Mridula Bhatkar spoke on injunctions under CPC, judgment writing, judicial discretion and legal reasoning.
Each session was followed by open interaction with resource persons. The programme concluded with remarks reaffirming the High Court’s commitment to continuous judicial education and capacity building.
