Shillong, Jul 27: Think India NIT Meghalaya on Monday observed Kargil Vijay Diwas to honour the courage and sacrifice of soldiers who defended the nation in the 1999 Kargil War.
The programme began with a tribute to Meghalaya’s own Captain Keishing Clifford Nongrum. Members recalled his leadership during the Kargil War, where despite injuries he led an assault on a fortified enemy position, eliminated adversaries and made the supreme sacrifice.
Members lit candles and offered floral tributes at portraits of Kargil heroes, including PVC awardees Captain Vikram Batra, Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav, and MVC awardees Captain Anuj Nayyar and Captain Neikezhakuo Kengurüse.
In an interactive session, participants discussed Captain Nongrum’s discipline, leadership, humility and devotion to duty, calling his life an ideal for youth. The valour of other Kargil heroes was also remembered.
Speaking on the occasion, Think India NIT Meghalaya members said Kargil Vijay Diwas is a reaffirmation of courage, selfless service, unity and devotion to the nation.
The event concluded with a pledge to uphold these values and keep alive the legacy of India’s brave soldiers.
