Shillong, Jul 27: One youth died and two others were seriously injured after the scooter they were riding was allegedly hit by a truck in Umiam in the early hours of Monday.
The incident occurred around 12:35 a.m. near Umiam.
The deceased has been identified as Rahul Ch. Sangma from South Garo Hills.
The two injured were rushed to Civil Hospital, Shillong, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Their condition is reported to be serious.
According to police, the truck involved in the collision fled the scene immediately after the accident.
A case has been registered and an investigation is underway to trace the vehicle and the driver, police said.
Authorities have appealed to anyone with information about the vehicle to come forward.
