Shillong, Jul 15: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) in Ri-Bhoi seized drugs along with a private vehicle in the wee hours at Umsning on Tuesday.
The members of the pressure group intercepted the vehicle based on specific information that drugs were being transported in a car with a fake number plate.
The KSU apprehended the culprits and found that they comprised Khasis and non-Khasis from Shillong. The group also allegedly found out that a Assam-based person was using tourist vehicles to supply drugs to Meghalaya.
Drug peddlers are increasingly using Umsning and the wider Ri-Bhoi as a route to transport drugs, the KSU claimed. Those detained in this particular case were handed over to Umsning police.
