Shillong, Jul 8: A dead body of an unidentified homeless man was found at the old Sales Tax building in Byrnihat, police said today.
Ri Bhoi police in a statement said the man was found dead on July 5. Enquiry revealed that the deceased was a homeless person who was mentally unstable and was often seen loitering in the Byrnihat area, police said.
The body was shifted to Civil Hospital, Nongpoh. After an inquest the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for identification.
Police said all police stations, outposts, AD camps, and PICs across the country have been alerted for identification of the deceased.
The deceased person, aged between 35-49 years and 5.3 ft in height. He was skinny, built with a swarthy complexion and was wearing short white pants.
Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills police said a highly decomposed body of a man identified as Arthur Momin was found at Mawjaraid village on July 2. After the post mortem examination, the body has been kept at the Civil Hospital morgue for identification and claim.
