Shillong, Jun 28: The Shillong Ropeway Project is expected to be completed by next year, the implementing agency assured South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai during an inspection of the site yesterday.
Officials told the MLA that the Rs 151 crore project is progressing as planned and is expected to significantly boost tourist footfall in Shillong once operational, by offering improved connectivity and a new attraction for visitors.
As part of environmental mitigation, officials said 10 new trees will be planted for every tree felled for the project.
The inspection was carried out under the Pragati Path Yatra, marking 12 years of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government, with a focus on showcasing major infrastructure projects funded by the central government. Shullai is one of two BJP MLAs in Meghalaya. He is also its lone cabinet minister at present.
