Shillong, Jun 26: Adviser to the Social Welfare Department Paul Lyngdoh today said that, since the start of DREAM Mission, it is obvious that Meghalaya now has a roadmap and strategies in place to combat drug addiction.
Lyngdoh said that the drug reduction strategy is multi-pronged. He pointed out that with the Chief Minister’s Grassroots Music Programme and investment by the government on futsal grounds the state has been able to divert the attention of the youths into productive activities like music and sports.
The West Shillong MLA stated that now there is better coordination with other departments since DREAM connects frequently with line departments.
Lyngdoh pointed out that drugs cannot be tackled by the government alone and therefore the entire society needs to be involved.
“Now there is a society which is aware and awake and this has helped us to minimise the impact of drug trafficking,” he added.
Lyngdoh pointed out that, compared to the rest of the North East, Meghalaya has done fairly well in containing the menace of drugs.
