Shillong, Jun 23: A hands-on training and demonstration programme focused on the preparation of vermicompost was conducted at Sankarigre village, to empower selected beneficiaries with practical skills required for effective vermicomposting.
Organised by the South West Garo Hills District Horticulture Officer, the programme was part of the organic manure scheme for the year 2025-26.
The training session was led by the Deputy Project Director of the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), provided participants with a step-by-step demonstration on preparing and managing vermicompost units. The primary goal of the programme was to enhance participants’ understanding of the scientific production of this eco-friendly organic manure, which is vital for improving soil fertility and encouraging sustainable agricultural practices.
Attended by various officials from the horticulture department, the event facilitated active participation from beneficiaries. They engaged in the practical demonstration and had the opportunity to ask questions and clarify different aspects of vermicomposting with the resource person.
