Shillong, Jun 20: The Directorate of Social Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, in collaboration with the Drug Reduction, Elimination and Action Mission (DREAM), organised a bike rally on Saturday as part of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2026.
Director of Social Welfare, Saloni Verma flagged off the rally from the U Soso Tham Auditorium premises here. A total of 15 bikers, including five women and 10 men, participated in the awareness campaign aimed at highlighting the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
The riders travelled through Laitkor, Sanmer, Mylliem, Laitlyngkot, Kyrdemkhla and concluded in Mawkdok, carrying messages promoting a healthy and drug-free lifestyle.
Addressing the gathering Verma said awareness programmes such as the bike rally play an important role in educating citizens and strengthening collective action against the growing menace of drugs. She stressed the need for community participation, especially among the youth, in building a safer and healthier society.
Officials said the initiative is part of the state government’s continued efforts to engage communities in combating drug abuse and encouraging positive social change.
