Shillong, June 15: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Jaintia Hills, held a legal awareness programme at Tluh village to mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
Organised under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the programme focused on educating the public about the rights, protection and welfare of senior citizens.
The event comes amid efforts to strengthen grassroots awareness on elder abuse, with officials urging citizens to report cases of exploitation and ensure dignity for senior members of society.
Deputy Legal Aid Defence Counsel K. Challam highlighted various legal provisions and welfare schemes available for the elderly, stressing the need to prevent abuse and neglect. HDFC Bank, Ladrymbai Branch Manager S. Lyngdoh, traditional heads, and community members were also present.
