Shillong, Jun 12: The South West Garo Hills district magistrate has passed an order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) banning the movement of heavy vehicles along the Garobadha–Dalu Road (SH-12).
The order said as per a report from the PWD (Roads), Ampati Division the road condition at the Tarapara stretch has deteriorated and heavy vehicles passing through the stretch frequently get stuck, triggering severe traffic disruptions and accelerated the damage.
The restriction will stay in place until necessary repair works are completed and the PWD (Roads), Ampati Division, officially declares the road fit for heavy vehicles.
Local administration has advised the general public and transport operators to comply strictly with the newly enforced rules. Violators will attract strict legal action under the relevant provisions of the law.
