Shillong, Jun 9: The United Democratic Party today expressed its sorrow over the death of HAD Sawian, the party’s first general secretary, describing him as one of the founding pillars of the UDP since its establishment in 1997.
In a condolence message, the party said Sawian served with “unwavering dedication, wisdom, and an abiding commitment to the cause of regionalism and the aspirations of the people of Meghalaya. His counsel guided and shaped generations of UDP workers, and his example endures as a beacon for all who serve this party and this land.”
The UDP credited Sawian with helping build the party “brick by brick” from its earliest days and inspiring countless workers to serve the cause of the people.
“In his demise, the United Democratic Party has lost a mentor, a guardian, and a true son of the hills. The void he leaves behind cannot be filled,” the party said. “A true Architect of UDP, your service to the party and the people of Meghalaya shall never be forgotten.”
The UDP conveyed heartfelt condolences to Sawian’s family and loved ones.
