Shillong, Jun 4: Kickboxers from the Meghalaya State Kickboxing Association (MSKA) returned home with 9 medals – 3 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze – from the Junior Boys’ and Girls’ National Kickboxing Championship held recently in Khurda, Odisha.
The event ran from May 30 to June 3 and the Meghalaya contingent was led by international kickboxer Daniella IW Mylliemngap as coach.
Derick Dashankur Nongrum retained his title as the national champion for the third year in a row as he defeated his rival from Goa in the final of the K1 Rules -54kg category.
The other two gold medallists were Aldrin Osmond Pariat (K1 Rules -60kg) and Darren Ervin Blah (Full Contact -51kg). They beat fighters from Himachal Pradesh and Odisha respectively to take first place in their categories.
The three silver medallists were Nathania Mylliem Umlong (Low Kick -48kg), the only female medallist from the state, Misariio Nongdhar (Full Contact -45kg) and Sumarlang Kharumnuid (K1 Rules -57kg).
The three bronze medal winners were Aedriel Gordon Ranee (K1 Rules -48kg), Merapkerlang Lyngwa (Full Contact -63kg) and Hamebuhnam Pathaw (Full Contact -45kg).
With these achievements, MSKA’s medal tally since August 2017 rose to 321, comprising 104 gold, 102 silver and 115 bronze, with 67 international standard medals and 9 medals for NEHU at the All India Inter University Games since 2019.
