Shillong, May 28: The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) has officially decided to march to the state Secretariat over the policies of the current government.
The decision was taken during a state executive committee meeting held on May 25, VPP spokesperson Londoner Murphy Sohtun said.
He said the party has decision to go ahead with the “movement of marching and surrounding”, after the ongoing student examinations are concluded.
Sohtun stated that the party made a conscious choice to delay their agitation to prioritise the academic interests and future of students.
While the exact date for the march has yet to be announced, VPP said the forthcoming demonstration represents the party’s unwavering commitment towards safeguarding the interests, rights and aspirations of the people of Meghalaya.
Last month, the opposition party took to the streets and held a series of public meetings all over Khasi-Jaintia Hills, which began from Motphran, highlighting employment challenges through the district selection committee (DSC) and the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC), the difficulties faced by the teachers and environmental concerns, including coal mining.
