Shillong, May 28: Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, is scheduled to visit Meghalaya from May 29 to May 31.
The three-day trip will focus on various programmes related to youth affairs and sports development. The minister will participate in the Chintan Shivir, organised by the Department of Youth Affairs, along with Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Shakliar Warjri, and other senior officials.
Mandaviya will inaugurate the Integrated Multipurpose Indoor Sports Complex in Shillong on May 30. This modern facility, developed at a cost of ₹132.9 crore, is designed to accommodate multiple sports disciplines such as basketball, badminton, and volleyball. It is envisioned as a vital infrastructure component for the upcoming 39th National Games.
The Host State Contract for the games will also be signed with in the presence of senior dignitaries and representatives of the Indian Olympic Association.
During his visit, the union minister will chair a review meeting focusing on preparations for the National Games. This meeting will involve discussions and presentations from state officials and representatives of other Northeastern states.
Additionally, he will inspect the Umsawli Sports Complex, which includes aquatics and tennis facilities, to evaluate ongoing sports infrastructure development. On May 31, Mandaviya will also review the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes in the Ri-Bhoi district under the Poorvottar Sampark Setu initiative.
