Khliehriat, May 27: With the monsoon season approaching, concerns have been raised regarding nearly broken electric poles in Rangad village of East Jaintia Hills district.
The Jaintia National Council (JNC) has flagged hazardous poles that lean precariously over a footpath, which are alarmingly just meters away from residential homes.
The JNC 7 Shnong circle, led by in-charge secretary Mehi Rymbai, met with the MEPDCL SDO to voice their concerns. During the meeting, they demanded the urgent replacement of the broken electric poles before a serious incident occurs.
Rymbai warned that these poles have weakened over time, posing a severe threat to local safety. He said villagers are worried about a potential collapse during heavy rain or strong winds, fearing live wires could fall and electrocute someone.
The SDO assured to address the issues quickly for the welfare of the public. The JNC said they will remain vigilant as they continue to apply pressure on MEPDCL to ensure timely action is taken.
