Shillong, May 13: Seven legislators from Meghalaya participated in the state legislators leadership programme held at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru.
Held from May 10–12, the programme was organised by Azim Premji University and PRS Legislative Research to strengthen the capacities of state legislators through focused discussions on governance, public policy, leadership, and emerging developmental challenges.
The participants from the state include Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Limison D. Sangma, Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem, Umsning MLA Dr Celestine Lyngdoh, Mylliem MLA Ronnie V. Lyngdoh, Nongstoin MLA Gabriel Wahlang, Mawsynram MLA Ollan Sing Suin, and Mawphlang MLA Matthew Beyondstar Kurbah.
Legislators engaged in discussions focusing on becoming effective lawmakers, understanding critical issues in education, and addressing public health concerns. Special emphasis was placed on public finance and the role of legislators in budget scrutiny. The role of artificial intelligence in various sectors, the challenge of youth employment, and the need for skilling in today’s economy were also discussed.
Overall, the exchange of ideas and peer learning during this programme is expected to bolster the legislators’ contributions towards their constituency priorities and the developmental goals of Meghalaya, a press statement said.
