Khliehriat, May 9: An unidentified dead body was found floating in a deep coal mine pit filled with water at Moolait Bri Sumer in East Jaintia Hills district, police said today.
Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Rasgania confirmed that the body was spotted inside the abandoned coal mine pit. However, due to the substantial depth of the pit, officials have been unable to retrieve the body thus far.
A team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) will be deployed to extract the body from the mine tomorrow, he said.
