Shillong, May 7: The National People’s Party (NPP) fielded just three candidates in the recent Assam general election but scored zero success.
Reacting to this, Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP national president Conrad K Sangma tried to look at it positively, saying that the party demonstrated courage in giving it a go in Assam.
Moreover, on the assertions by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which extended its majority in Assam while also sweeping to victory in West Bengal for the first time, that it will take Meghalaya in 2028, Sangma said people will say what they want but, ultimately, the people will decide at the ballot box.
When asked what was wrong with the NPP in Assam, Sangma said that the party does not shy away from a challenge.
“We have to have courage to move forward. Every long journey starts with a first step and what is important is for one to have the courage to take it despite all the difficulties one may face and that’s what determines an organisation and leadership,” he said, adding that the party will learn from the experience and make sure to improve.
