Shillong, Apr 28: Defending champions Mawlai SC were held to a 2-2 draw by Laskein SCSC in Group E of the 5th Meghalaya State League in Amlarem today.

Half of Mawlai’s squad have travelled to Manipur to take part in the I-League 3 where they are representing Meghalaya with pride and the players that remain, mostly juniors, conceded first to Laskein’s Bundaki Lamare (9′). Jestibor Mawlong (32′) pulled Mawlai level and Syndongmiki Lyngdoh (55′) then gave the reigning champions the lead in the second half but Laskein equalised in the 60th minute via Rithrangmiki Biam.

There were no such problems for Langsning FC and Nongkseh SSCC, who both won their matches 8-0 against Umlakro SC and Mawshun SC respectively.

Langsning’s Nelson Rymbai (32′, 62′, 88′, 90’+1) continued to fire in Mairang as he scored another four goals today; the striker took the lead in the Top Scorer race, now with 11 goals to his credit. Mebanlamlynti Masharing (29′), Samuel Phawa (56′) Morningstar Khongkiang (79′) and a 73rd minute own goal made up the rest of Langsning’s tally in the Group F contest.

At the SSA Stadium in Shillong, Nongkseh’s Chesterpaul Lyngdoh (16′, 35′, 88’P) scored a hat-trick in the Group A fixture; like Nelson, it was his second of the campaign. Hardy Cliff Nongbri (11′, 90’+2), Shano Tariang (52′, 90′) and a blinding late strike from distance by Fullmoon Mukhim (90’+4) ensured that Nongkseh claimed another big victory.

The other one-sided match today was in Wahiajer’s Group E where Lumphyrnai Sohphoh FC defeated Lamyrsiang SCC 6-1. Rio Marboh (9′, 45’+3, 72′, 79′), who scored a treble in his team’s last outing, produced four goals today and has quickly become a player to watch out for. Phrangsngi Law (81′) and Chandame Suna (90’+3) scored the other two goals for Lumphyrnai, while Seiborki Kharlukhi (34′) delivered Lamyrsiang’s lone strike.

The other four matches today were all closer contests.

At Shillong’s MFA Ground in Group B, Mawphu SC came from a goal down to beat Mulang SC Nongbah 3-2. Woldrik Susngi (10′) gave Mulang the lead early on with a powerful effort but Mawphu came back through Arkidon L War (28′), Larikupar Nongkynrih (64’P) and Banman Roy Nongsiej (83′). Dashwakini Susngi (90′) kept Mulang in the hunt late in the day but they were unable to avoid a fourth defeat.

In Khliehriat, Group D’s match saw Rymbai Shkenshynriah SC edge Ladthadlaboh SC 2-1, again from a goal down. Pyniaidskhem Sylliang (31′) scored first for Ladthadlaboh, who were semifinalists in MSL 2024-25 but have been struggling a little this season. Hesmiki Rymbai (67’P, 90’+2) then struck a brace in the second half to win the game for R Shkenshynriah.

Williamnagar saw Maram FC end a two-game losing streak to beat A’chik SCO Rongjeng 3-2 in Group G. Tremarchwal Ch Marak (2′), Bris Taro (43′), Santosh Teron (55′) scored for Maram, who had started the season with two victories, while Keri G Momin (45′, 49′) found the back of the net twice for ASCOR.

And, finally, Group H witnessed a third draw in the last four games with Seng Samla Umdang Pyllun versus Mawten SC finishing 1-1 in Mawkyrwat. Rangkynsaistar Mawsor, who has scored in each of Umdang Pyllun’s four games, struck first in the 36th minute only for Oversharp Iawphniaw (75′) to cancel this out in the second half.

There will be only one match tomorrow, in Group G, between Attong Matgrik FC and Janepih YSCA at 3pm in Williamnagar.
