Jowai, Apr 24: West Jaintia Hills district police have detected cases of two-wheeler thefts, arrested one person and detained four minors involved in the crime.

The quick response was facilitated by complainants who took immediate action by calling 112 to report the incidents that happened yesterday.

One Wanphida O. Laloo of Ummulong village notified authorities about the theft of his scooty bearing registration number ML-05 W-6877 from the vicinity of along the Civil Hospital, Jowai.

Additional Superintendent of Police Crescency W Lyngdoh said an immediate analysis of CCTV footage was done, which revealed the identity of the suspect.

Acting on the information gathered, police initiated intensive patrolling efforts in the area, which led to the interception of the stolen two-wheeler and the thieves.

Lyngdoh said all the five persons, including four minors were taken to the Phramer Traffic Cell for interrogation.

During questioning, one child in conflict with the law (CICL) disclosed that the stolen scooty had been taken to Pdengshakap village. Following this lead, a police team proceeded to the location and recovered the stolen scooty, she added.

On the same day, a second complaint was filed by one Bastanroy Mawthoh of Nongmensong, Langkyrding, regarding the theft of his scooty (ML-05 AF-5040, Yamaha Ray ZR, matte black with golden rims) around 2:30 am.

Lyngdoh said that this scooty was also located and recovered from the same village.

Both the stolen tw-wheelers are now secured at the Phramer Traffic Cell for the requisite legal action.

Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant regarding vehicle security and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via emergency number 112.
