Shillong, Apr 23: The Meghalaya Governor had declared Bijasik Matwa A’pal Community Forest to henceforth be a Community Reserve.
The reserve is located under Songsak block in East Garo Hills.
Using powers under the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, the Governor constituted a seven-member management committee for the Bijasik Matwa A’pal Community Reserve with Charon C Marak its chairman, Taibath D Sangma the president and the Divisional Forest Officer for East and West Garo Hills as member secretary. The chairman will also be the Honorary Wildlife Warden of the reserve.
