Shillong, Apr 22: Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Home and PWD (Roads & Buildings), Prestone Tynsong, on Wednesday instructed the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and the Border Security Force (BSF) to expedite the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for road projects under PMGSY-III along the India-Bangladesh border.
The directive came after he chaired a joint meeting with officials from both agencies. Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said that while approval has already been granted for the reconstruction of certain road stretches, the work cannot proceed without the required clearances from CPWD and BSF. One such stretch lies in the Ranikor region, where both agencies have jurisdiction.
He also highlighted challenges in parts of Garo Hills, where some road segments fall outside the existing border fencing. According to him, the BSF has raised concerns over these stretches, suggesting that the alignment be shifted within the fenced area. This is due to objections from authorities across the border in Bangladesh, who have reportedly resisted infrastructure development in areas beyond the fencing.
Tynsong said the matter was discussed in detail during the meeting, and both CPWD and BSF have been asked to process the NOCs at the earliest to avoid further delays. He added that the agencies would escalate the matter to their higher authorities, following which the clearances are expected to be issued, allowing construction work to begin.
