Shillong, Apr 14: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) today closed down a place of worship in Lower Lumparing which it said had been illegally converted into a mosque.
The pressure group stated that, in the past, land had been provided for the construction of a house for a watchman in charge of the Muslim cemetery but now the land has become a mosque without taking any permission from the local authorities.
The Dorbar Shnong of Lower Lumparing, after receiving a complaint from the organisation, investigated and decided to dismantle the mosque but no action was taken on this matter by the Muslim community, the KSU added.
