Shillong, Apr 1: Police are investigating the cause of the death of a 16-year-old boy, who passed away a day after he returned to the city from Assam Valley School in Tezpur. Police suspect it to be a case of unnatural death, though the exact cause is still unknown.
The teen, the grandson of senior lawyer VK Jindal, died on March 31. He had returned to the city the previous day after completing his Class 10 exams.
On the fateful day, the boy left the family home in Motinagar to meet his friends in Laitumkhrah. The family received a call in the evening regarding the recovery of the body at Umpling bridge, under Rynjah Police Station.
Speaking to reporters about the incident, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said that information was received from Bethany Hospital that the youth was brought dead in a 108 emergency ambulance.
“He was mysteriously found in a house near Umpling bridge in the evening with a bleeding nose,” Syiem informed. “There were two persons with the student in the house. The parents of the boy were contacted by the persons and then the boy was shifted in the 108 ambulance. Police called the Forensic Crime Scene Unit and others at the site to gather any evidence available. An inquest has been conducted and no fatal injury is apparent. Post mortem has been conducted at NEIGRIHMS to ascertain the cause of death.”
Police are waiting for the toxicology report to find out whether the minor had any drugs in his system at the time of death and whether these could have played a part.
