Shillong, Mar 31: The suspension of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Secretary DG Syiemiong was due to improper functioning and a procedural lapse, Chief Executive Member (CEM) Winston Tony Lyngdoh has informed Leader of the Opposition Titostarwell Chyne.
Syiemiong was suspended earlier this month in a matter related to the approval of a PIL filed in the High Court without approval from the executive committee and Executive Member in-charge. The suspension is for two weeks, with Syiemiong set to return to duty on April 2.
An inquiry is underway to examine if the suspension affects Syiemiong’s service, considering his retirement is only around a month away. Meanwhile, Special Standing Counsel TT Diengdoh’s resignation is reportedly a personal decision, unrelated to the PIL or Syiemiong’s suspension.
The controversy surrounds an affidavit filed in a PIL challenging a government decision on Scheduled Tribe certificates, with the High Court questioning how the choice of surname impacts tribal certification.
