Shillong, Mar 31: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will constitute a special committee to discuss amendments to the Autonomous District (AD) rules, including Para 128.
Leader of Opposition Titostarwell Chyne announced this after meeting with Chief Executive Member (CEM) Winston Tony Lyngdoh, stating the committee will comprise executive members, opposition members, and officers.
The committee is expected to be formed by next week, with the goal of expediting the amendment process.
Chyne expressed hope that the amendments would be made at the earliest, aligning with expectations.
The move is seen as a step towards addressing concerns over non-tribal participation in council elections and safeguarding indigenous electoral rights.
