Shillong, Mar 29: The National People’s Party (NPP) has condemned the incident at Umshyrpi a few nights ago where the driver of a commercial vehicle was threatened and assaulted.
In a release today, NPP working president Hamletson Dohling called on police to take immediate cognisance of the matter and arrest the perpetrator.
The party’s condemnation came after the suspect was named as the older brother of ex-MDC Bajop Pyngrope, who is a senior figure in the NPP’s youth wing.
The suspect had threatened to shoot the driver with a pistol, implying that he was a policeman. However, police swiftly issued a denial that he was in the force.
Dohling did not mention the connection to Pyngrope, only saying that the individual was “unidentified”. He added, “Such lawlessness is unacceptable in a modern and civilised society and must be condemned by all concerned.”
