Shillong, Mar 24: The Hajong Students Youth Voice Federation Council (HSYV) has strongly condemned the misuse of the name “Shillong Hajong Welfare Association” in the freshers’ meet poster of Shillong Hajong Students’ Union (SHSU).
According to the organisation, the matter which dates to September 21, 2025 came to light this year after reviewing the official Instagram page of the SHSU.
The HSYV stated that the organisation was mentioned as “Shillong Hajong Welfare Association”, whereas the correct and existing name is Shillong Hajong Welfare Society.
HSYV chairman Nobaram Hajong in a statement today said the poster inaccurately referred to the organization as the “Shillong Hajong Welfare Association,” a name that is not only incorrect but has led to significant confusion within the community.
He said the misrepresentation is not a trivial mistake; it has serious implications for the Hajong community. The incorrect naming has created misunderstandings regarding official welfare representation, particularly affecting sensitive aspects like community no-objection certificate (NOC) issuance and community verification.
HSYV asserted that this false impression regarding the existence of a welfare association in Shillong has led to mistrust among community members, endangering the unity and integrity of the Hajong people.
The organisation has demanded immediate public clarification from the Shillong Hajong Students’ Union. They are seeking a formal explanation and a public apology.
HSYV reiterated its call for the formation of an officially recognized unit under the Meghalaya Hajong Welfare Association (MHWA) in Shillong for achieving proper, transparent representation for the Hajong community.
