Shillong, Mar 17: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) has condemned the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) for omitting the Jaintia category in a corrigendum issued on March 14 regarding assistant engineer recruitment.
The JSU said this oversight has raised significant concerns about the recognition of the Jaintia identity and the representation of the community in official documents.
The original classification explicitly included “Khasi Jaintia,” establishing a clear distinction that recognizes the Jaintia community. However, the revised document now only mentions “Khasi,” effectively erasing the Jaintia category from consideration. The JSU has pointed out that this unexplained omission threatens the integrity and recognition of the Jaintia identity. It highlights fears that Jaintia representation may be increasingly marginalized in administrative processes.
The union has demanded that the MPSC clarify, reinstate the Jaintia category in all relevant documentation, and ensure that the community’s rights are upheld.
