Shillong, Mar 15: The 100 Days Prevention of Child Marriage Campaign culminated in East Jaintia Hills with 116 villages being declared Child Marriage Free Zones.
The villages, spread across Saipung, Lumshnong and Wapung blocks, were identified through a joint effort by the District Child Protection Unit and Khliehriat Women Police Station.
The declaration was made during the Closing Convergence Meeting of the ASHA Unit, chaired by B Khriam, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson of DLSA. The campaign, implemented in three phases, included awareness programs, street plays, and rallies to educate the public on the harmful effects of child marriage.
