Shillong, Mar 13: The Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) sent back non-local labourers engaged in constructions sites at NEHU, PHE Department and JNV, Mawphlang without valid legal documentation.
The HYC Mawlai circle said a drive was carried out in NEHU campus and found at least 17 non-local labourers working there.
Circle organising secretary S. Marwein said the drive was conducted under its “Sier Lapalang Operation”, a campaign to detect, check, and expel undocumented migrant workers.
The HYC Mawphlang area unit also conducted a similar drive at a construction site of the PHE Department and the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV).
The group reiterated that contractors and employers should hire local residents and not bring in outside labourers without documentation.
