Khliehriat, Mar 11: The joint committee of Elaka Nongkhlieh in East Jaintia Hills District has issued a directive to ban NGOs and voluntary organisations from operating within its jurisdiction, effective March 14.
A public notice issued by the Elaka said the decision was taken by the committee on March 9.
As per the directive, NGOs who have set up offices in the Elaka are required to either close their offices or relocate them outside the area.
The Elaka also mandated that NGOs must seek prior permission to enter its jurisdiction. A request should be submitted one month in advance and must include valid reasons for entering the area, the notice said.
