Shillong, Mar 10: The Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the United Service Institution of India (USI), hosted the Assam Rifles – USI annual seminar at the Major General Samir Sinha Auditorium in New Delhi today.
The seminar was themed, ‘Security Challenges to the North East: Assessment & Way Forward.’ Participants examined various issues, including insurgency, cross-border tensions, and socio-economic factors impacting peace in the region.
Experts shared their assessments of the current security landscape, highlighting the need for a comprehensive approach to address these challenges effectively.
Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai who delivered the keynote address shared his perspectives on the evolving security dynamics in the North Eastern region.
Senior officers of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, members of academia, policy practitioners and representatives from the media attended the seminar.
During the seminar, the Director General Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, and Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh, Director of United Service Institution of India highlighted several key agenda points related to the theme of the event. Their observations emphasised the importance of a comprehensive approach towards addressing the evolving security challenges in the North East.
Discussions during the seminar emphasised the importance of understanding the unique geopolitical context of Northeast India. Experts noted that while the security situation in the region has improved considerably over the years due to sustained efforts of the security forces, civil administration and political leadership, emerging challenges continue to require constant review and coordinated responses.
Other issues are border management, regional instability in the eastern neighbourhood and the growing influence of information and social media in shaping the security landscape. The deliberations aimed to assess the current security environment and identify practical approaches for addressing emerging challenges in the region.
