Mawkyrwat, Mar 6: A 24-year old man died after his bike plunged into a gorge at Riat Twahraniang, Photjaud under South West Khasi Hills district, police said today.
The deceased has been identified as Imanningstar Nongbsaw of Manad village.
According to police, on March 4 a written FIR was filed that children spotted a Yamaha R15 with registration number ML 10 B 0962 in the area the day before.
Based on the complaint police conducted an enquiry and found that the bike belonged to Nongbsaw. On the night of March 3, while returning home from Mawkyrwat, he lost control of the motorbike at Riat Twahraniang and plunged approximately 16 meters down a gorge from the PWD road, police said.
Following an inquest it was determined that the rider sustained grievous head injuries with bleeding, and there was no indication of foul play in the accident, police added.
The family of the deceased requested an exemption for a post-mortem examination, which was granted by the ex-magistrate.
