Shillong, Mar 6: In one of the biggest drug hauls in Meghalaya, the Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) have seized crystal methamphetamine worth about Rs 51. 13 crore and arrested two persons, including a woman today.
The ANTF and a team of East Jaintia Hills police conducted a checking operation in Ratacherra and intercepted a Tata Sumo bearing registration number MZ-01-M-8625 with two passengers, along with the driver.
During a thorough search of the vehicle, the team first seized 19 plastic soap cases containing suspected heroin weighing 203.7 grams were recovered. Further search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a blue-coloured trolley bag that contains suspected crystal meth (methamphetamine) weighing 10.145 kilograms.
Police have not shared the details of the arrested individuals but said preliminary analysis suggests that the individuals are part of a larger inter-state and cross-border drug trafficking syndicate.
A case has been registered at the ANTF police station as further investigation is underway.
Meth is considered more lethal than other drugs as on an average, 4.8 per cent of its users required emergency medical attention after consumption, according to the Global Drug Survey.
