Shillong, Mar 1: The Jaiñtia Tribal Trader Association (JTTA) held its general meeting at Tpep-pale Community Hall in Jowai to discuss the impending issue of stall allocation at the near-completed Iawmusiang Shopping Complex.
The meeting centered on determining who will be allotted stalls, including those with existing permits.
JTTA president Iatha Najiar highlighted the core issue: the complex has 300 stalls, but over 600 shopkeepers hold permits, leading to widespread inconvenience. Najiar expressed frustration that despite multiple letters to the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), no response has been received.
The association has given JHADC two weeks to address the issue; if not, they will organize a public march to demand answers. The meeting also revealed discrepancies in permit payments, with some traders having paid annual fees while others have not.
