Shillong, Feb 28: The Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) today reacted to the controversial remarks on Christianity by Senior BJP leader Sunil Deodhar stating that Christianity is not a threat to the world.
JNC president Sambormi Lyngdoh at a press conference said that it is essential to understand Christianity as a spiritual connection to Christ, rather than a political or social issue. “Many leaders among us are not Christians, but what unites us is the foundation of our tribe and our land, not religion. When discussing our country, we should aim for unity not through a single religion, but by respecting one another,” he stressed.
Stating that when discussing Christianity, it is crucial to focus on its essence, which is fundamentally centered around Jesus Christ, Lyngdoh asserted that coercion in matters of faith contradicts the very principles of love that Christianity promotes.
He emphasized the need for mutual respect among all religions in India. He urged that just because one identifies as Christian does not mean they are less of an Indian.
The JNC president recalled historical instances of persecution faced by early Christians and said that opposing Christianity is more than just a religious issue; it involves opposing the teachings of Christ, who preached love and peace.
He further called all communities to embrace understanding and respect, emphasising that Christianity does not threaten societal harmony.
