Nongpoh, Feb 24: Skeletal remains were discovered today at Iewsier and are thought to belong to a man who went missing eight months ago after falling from a bridge and being swept away by the river.
Local fishermen spotted human bones lodged among rocks near the riverbank and immediately alerted family members and village authorities. The relatives subsequently informed Nongpoh Police Station, seeking a thorough investigation into the discovery, as the remains are suspected to be those of a man who had been missing since July.
It was on July 27, 2025 that Ebi Nongshli of Umtasor reportedly fell from a bridge at Iewsier in the evening while spending time with friends. He accidentally slipped from the bridge and was swept away by the strong current of the river. Despite continuous search operations carried out by locals and police, his body was never recovered.
The skeletal remains were found today trapped between rocks in the river area. However, authorities have not yet confirmed whether they belong to the missing man. Family members have urged the police to conduct a DNA test to establish the identity conclusively.
