Shillong, Feb 21: Vice Chancellor of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla was honoured for his notable academic contributions and commitment to advancing traditional knowledge systems during the 48th International Conference on Astrology and Oriental Heritage.
The conference was held at Mahajati Sadan Auditorium, Kolkata bringing together scholars, dignitaries, and international delegates to deliberate on classical knowledge traditions and their relevance today.
The three-day conference, which will conclude tomorrow, focused on diverse branches of oriental learning, including Sanskrit literature, Vedic studies, Vedanta, Smriti, Puranic traditions, Jyotish, Vastu Shastra, and Yoga.
Each day of the event was dedicated to spiritual luminaries—Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Sri Ma Sarada, and Swami Vivekananda—whose teachings continue to influence philosophical and cultural thought.
The event witnessed the presence of prominent personalities including public officials, jurists, university leaders, diplomats, and scholars from India and abroad. Speakers stressed the importance of safeguarding classical intellectual traditions while encouraging research that connects ancient wisdom with contemporary challenges.
Organisers described the conference as a significant platform for scholarly exchange and reaffirmed their dedication to promoting Oriental studies through future academic initiatives and collaborations.
