Shillong, Feb 20: As a mark of respect to the late Shillong Lok Sabha MP Ricky Andrew J Syngkon, proceedings in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) were suspended today.
The Assembly took up only obituary references while the KHADC approved only the vote on account, introduced on February 18.
The Meghalaya budget for 2026-27 was scheduled to be presented in the Assembly today.
According to the revised calendar, the budget will be presented on February 23.
In the KHADC, Leader of the Opposition Titos Starwell Chyne proposed that the district council adjourn routine proceedings for the day as a tribute to the departed MP, which was accepted by Deputy Chairman Kynjohlang Rangthong.
The session concluded with members observing a minute of silence in memory of the departed MP, paying tribute to his life and service.
