Shillong, Feb 8: A gang of thieves broke open an ATM machine with a gas cutter and stole Rs 35.34 lakh at Mylliembah in the early hours of Sunday.
The thieves, thought to be around four in number, hit the ATM at approximately 2:20am.
Before they began cutting into the ATM, the gang sprayed the CCTV present with black paint.
Police are still hopeful of being able to identify the culprits.
A similar incident was reported in Mawkriah last year where thieves used equipment to cut into the machine and steal cash. No arrests were made.
This is a recurring issue across the country with recent incidents as of late 2025 and early 2026.
