Shillong, Jan 19: One Pynkloide (alias Deibor) Phyrnge was convicted for penetrative sexual assault of a child and sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The case goes back to October 9, 2024 when a woman lodged an FIR at Khliehriat Women’s Police Station stating that her minor granddaughter had gone missing from the family home-cum-shop at Umpleng on the evening of October 7. The girl was found the next morning (October 8).
A case was registered under sections of the BNS dealing with rape involving minors and wrongful confinement, along with penetrative sexual assault under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Phyrnge was charge-sheeted on January 2, 2025 and the court of the Special Judge (POCSO), B Khriam, pronounced Phyrnge guilty and sentenced him to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under POCSO, along with rigorous imprisonment of 3 years and a fine of Rs 5,000 for wrongful confinement.
