Shillong, Jan 12:The Biate community came together to celebrate Nul Ding Kut Festival today, marking the completion of the agricultural cycle, at Saipung, Lamzol in East Jaintia Hills district
Organized by the Biate Cultural Organization of Meghalaya (BCOM), the event was attended by Sutnga-Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla and other dignitaries.
The celebration featured vibrant traditional dances, folk songs, and stories showcasing the community’s cultural heritage and gratitude. Nul Ding Kut, or “Festival of Renewal of Life”, expresses thanks for nature’s abundance and a successful harvest.
The festival promotes cultural preservation, intergenerational knowledge transfer, and showcases traditional crafts like bamboo work and weaving. It highlights the Biate people’s distinct identity and empowers younger generations to reconnect with their roots.
