Shillong, Jan 3: The Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) in Ri Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills district organised awareness programme on the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) scheme.
The new jobs guarantee scheme, hailed by the Union government as a “historic” piece of legislation “aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047”, was introduced and passed in Parliament during this Winter Session, replacing the 20-year-old MGNREGA amidst protests and objections from across Opposition parties, scholars, and activists.
In Ri Bhoi, the programme brought together 20 village headmen and members of village committees from Liarkhla, Mawshut, Tyrsha, Liarbang, Mawbri, Kdonghulu, Thadnongiaw and adjoining villages.
During the interaction, key provisions of the Act, with special emphasis on its social security measures aimed at rural households were explained. The unemployment allowance provision, designed to provide temporary income support to eligible job-seekers during periods of joblessness, drew particular attention.
Other benefits highlighted included support for skill development, promotion of village-based enterprises, improved access to government schemes, and strengthened local governance mechanisms.
In West Jaintia Hills, the programme was held at the KVK training in Moopun, Wahiajer.
Banylla Kharbamon, SMS (Horticulture) said that the VB-G RAM G aims to boosts rural jobs by extending guaranteed work from 100 to 125 days/household/year for a holistic rural development and prosperity.
Farm women leaders, Dakaniwankishwa Siangshai, Welda Lyngdoh, and Philis Siangshai, shared their views on various government schemes and the VB-GRAM-G and hoped that the initiatives would support their families in their daily activities and meeting their household expenditures.
Altogether, 20 participants took part in the programme.
