Shillong, Dec 29: The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills, Rosetta Mary Kurbah, has issued an order prohibiting residents of Nonjrong and Kut villages from cutting wood at a disputed site, citing potential law and order concerns.
The order, issued under Section 163 of the BNSS 2023, follows reports of inhabitants from both villages engaging in firewood cutting, sparking tensions between them.
Violations will attract penalties under Section 223 of the BNS and other relevant sections.
Kurbah signed the order on December 27 and it came into effect immediately.
